Hello! I’m a former national journalist, who’s now doing the whole portfolio career thing. I specialise in crafting brilliant words for all sorts of different people and companies, so let’s hope there aren’t any typos on this website.

I am a Sunday Times-bestselling ghostwriter, do editorial consulting, strategy and tone of voice for brands and am an experienced media and communications training specialist.

What I Do

Sunday Times-bestselling ghostwriter

I love ghostwriting. It combines three of my greatest strengths: being a nosey journalist, a good writer and a reading addict who would rather sell my kidneys than my book collection. I’ve written several books, many of which were Sunday Times and Times bestsellers. My most recent book for an Instagram health influencer held the number one spot for many weeks.

Without getting too #blessed about it, I love working with people to help them tell their stories and capturing their true personalities on the page.

I’m represented by Rachel Mills Literary Agency.

Trainer + coach

I’m a freelance trainer and creative consultant for The Writer, a brand language consultancy helping businesses use their words better. Clients I’ve worked with through The Writer include: HSBC, NatWest, RBS, Times Educational Supplement, Clearcast, Sanofi, Goldman Sachs, Aptamil and more.

For six years, I co-ran a media training business coaching PR/comms professionals and c-suite executives on everything from pitching to the media to giving brilliant interviews. Clients included Asda, Wood Mackenzie, Macmillan Cancer Care, iCrossing, Betty TV, Egmont, NBC Universal and lots more.

Brand language expert

I’ve worked across lots of varied projects in the past few years, on everything from tone of voice to copywriting and editing.

Clients have included Camm + Hooper,  David Phillips Furnishing and creative agencies including Don’t Panic PartnersDen Creative and Lucky Beard

I have a special interest in tone of voice - how brands can develop a unique linguistic tone to build consumer relationships. I spent a year in-house at Pentland Brands, (Speedo, Berghaus, Ellesse, etc) where I created a new tone of voice guide and supporting workshop. I’ve worked on tone of voice guides for Belstaff and many clients of The Writer, too.

Editorial consultant

When I got into print journalism in the 2000s I thought I had missed the glory years. And although I had indeed missed out on the days of liquid lunches and fat expense accounts, I was lucky to work for magazines in the last years where they actually sold loads of copies; before social media lobbed a final grenade into the smoking rubble of print media (thanks, Internet).

While a journalist, I wrote and worked for: Stylist, Mizz, Sugar, Now, New, Closer, Reveal, Grazia, Glamour, Cosmopolitan and the Sunday Times Travel, plus some more that don’t sound quite as impressive. I was Celebrity Editor at Good Housekeeping magazine for four years, and over the years have interviewed hundreds of celebrities and ‘real’ people.

More recently, I’ve used my editorial skills as a consultant for charities like Now Teach, where I created a member magazine. At Pentland Brands, I developed a content strategy that drove huge increases in employee engagement, which allowed me to create fun-looking presentations with lots of impressive numbers on them.
